This is a strange way to treat professionals who are co-laborers in God's Kingdom. True, there is a senior pastor who is responsible to the entire church for all that is done in the name of pastoral ministry. His subordinate, however, should be accorded some amount of professional consideration in view of the fact that he is probably underpaid for his professional standing.
You could compare it to the university system. A full professor is given that title because he has achieved PhD. status, has taught x number of courses over x years, has mentored x number of graduate students who received advanced degrees, and has written x number of books. The Associate Professor is of less status because he hasn't fulfilled one of the above requirements that the full professor has. In fact he is an equal in teaching and is made to feel like a professional colleague.
