This rule would create a reasonable method to prevent what could result in an unfortunate series of events in the location where the superintendent served. Without mentioning cases, we are aware that some ministers with excellent credentials and outstanding ministries were sidelined by immature superintendednts on spurious charges . . . or perhaps even out of envy. The potential cost of such personnel mismanagement cannot be measured in terms of district long term growth. In any case, it represents a step backwards which could have been avoided. The district superintendent should above all be a mature person, well along in his way with Christ and open to the kind of changes needed to grow the church over the long haul. . . not simply a fellow with good communication skills with other ministers. The Bishop presideing should have at least two or three executive interviews with those under consideration.
